MINNESOTA BILINGUAL SEALS

Mission

Minnesota Bilingual Seals (MN SEALS) are an official academic recognition as legislated in 2014 under the Learning English for Academic Proficiency and Success (LEAPS) Act. Bilingual seals or certificates are awarded to Minnesota high school graduates who have met the required levels of proficiency in a world language and completed the English Language Arts credits needed for graduation.

The Seal recognizes a student's linguistic and intercultural competence, and it can enhance college applications and job prospects. The Seal can earn students free college credit. The Seal also promotes multilingualism and cross-cultural communication in our state

This website provides information to students, parents, teachers, and administrators about Minnesota Bilingual Seals with the goal of creating greater equity and access to this award.  This site is supported by a Title VI Language Resource Center grant to the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at the University of Minnesota in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Education

MN SEALS tests are currently available in Amharic, Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese (Mandarin), Czech, Dakota, French, German, Hindi, Hebrew, Hmong, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Karen, Korean, Latin, Ojibwe, Oromo, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tamil, and Vietnamese. And coming soon: Dari, Pashto, Swahili, and Ukranian.
